You are Prepared to Have Veneers for Life
Veneers make it easy for so many of our patients to get the smiles they want. It’s minimally invasive and doesn’t require as much tooth preparation as getting dental crowns. Plus, most patients can get their new smile in just three visits. Of course, some tooth preparation is often necessary before you get veneers.
Tooth preparation involves shaving down about 0.5 millimeter of tooth enamel to make room for the added bulk of the veneers. While this can usually be performed painlessly without even needing anesthesia, it’s important to note that this is not reversible. So once your teeth have been prepared you will wear your veneers for the rest of your life.
You Maintain Good Oral Hygiene
As with any cosmetic dental procedure you will need to have impeccable oral hygiene. This means that your smile is free of cavities and gum disease. If we detect any of these issues during you consultation they will need to be treated before you get veneers. Even once you get your veneers you will need to floss daily and brush at least twice a day to make sure that decay and other issues do not ruin your new smile.
You See Your Milford, CT Dentist Routinely
Just as at-home oral care is important for maintaining a healthy smile for life, so too is seeing your general dentist in Milford every six months for cleanings. While dental veneers are made from durable, stain-resistant porcelain, they aren’t designed to last forever. Even though you can get a decade or more of life out of your veneers, it’s important to come into our office for routine care to make sure that your veneers are still strong and intact. We can also tell when they will need to be replaced.
